Snoring is disruptive to you and your partner's sleep, but snoring can be dangerous as well and lead to sever health issues. With the help of the Buzz NeoSensory, we think we can provide a haptic signal to sooth the subject and disrupt the snoring cycle.
The NeoSensory Buzz has the unique ability to allow you to sense your surroundings without disturbing those around you. With the help of the pre-trained sound inference model YAMNet, we intend to encode snoring audio events into haptic responses in the hope of breaking the snoring cycle.
This project consists of two components; the sound inference base (Raspberry Pi 4b + Seeed RESPEAKER) as well as the Buzz haptic bracelet. The sound inference base will be used to collect audio, prepare audio for classification, classify the audio signal specifically looking for snoring audio events. The snoring events are weighted and averaged over a period of time, once the average is above a threshold a sinusoidal signal will sent to the Buzz until the averaged snoring level falls below the snoring threshold.
Buzz PatternThe vibration pattern produced is a sine wave that oscillates over the 4 motors and increases/decrease proportional to the weighed confidence average.
Our test was run over the course of two nights. Our baseline consisted of one night without the use of the Buzz bracelet and our test night was similar conditions but with the use of the Buzz.
Baseline Night
Test Night
- With a snore confidence of 50%, the baseline night had 59 instances of snoring and the test night had 26 instances (a 56% reduction)
- With a snore confidence of 30%, the baseline night had 85 instances of snoring and the test night had 37 instances (a 56% reduction)
I realize this is only 1 night of testing, but we ran out of time :)
