Electric Toilet Paper for Mobility Impaired

Introduction

This is a very simple project demonstrating a rolling/spinning toilet paper on a stick which can help self cleaning after call of nature' for mobility impaired people.

This is a tool to improve the quality of life. This can be build under 5$.

Hardware

As a low cost simple solution, it only requires following hardware:

• Geared DC Motor : This is a low rpm high torque DC geared motor that operates with in 3 to 6 DC supply.
• DPDT Push Switches: Double pole double through switching is actually 4 switches to alternate/reverse the path of current in a circuit. It's purpose is to forward/reverse the rotation of the geared motor.
• 3 AA Battery: 3 AA Alkaline Batteries to supply 4.5 volts to the geared motor
• Shaft like Mechanical Structure: A semi flexible shaft material to attach the toilet paper roll on the geared motor. This can be a custom 3D printed solution or a bio degradable material based stick make from paper or wood
• Attachable Toilet Paper Roll: A custom attachable toilet paper roll that can be mounted when

How does it work ?

First someone will attach the toilet paper roll on shaft. Then user needs to press the DPDT switches to connect the motor to the battery electrically. Depending on the DPDT switches position, the motor will rotate forward and reverse direction spinning the tissue roll

Now user needs to put the rolling tissue to clean up, as the tissue rolls, it will perform the wiping.

Conclusion

This project is a very basic solution to demonstrate the idea. Of course, more work is required to actually make a viable product from this.

Many people feel shy or disgusted when talking about toilet paper and associated activities. Nothing to be shy here or disgusted ! It's part of our everyday life and this can be very challenging for mobility impaired or limited mobility people to take care of themselves . I hope, the idea I have just demonstrated may be helpful to build a real solution similar to this.
