This is Hack To The Future Radio built for Delorean. It's old radio badly needed an upgrade. We built the internet radio with a twist.
Instead of tuning in a frequency, it tunes in a year. As you turn the tuning knob, the year changes on the display, and the music played is from the selected year.
Edison processor is the heart of the system. It gets the music stream from Azure Media Services and outputs it to the speaker. It also utilizes Grove inputs for volume and year, as well as a Grove LCD display. It employs a USB sound card, purchased for $7 at Fry's, which imposed a significant technical challenge, as the Edison could not deal with this device out-of-the-box. In order to adapt the Edison, we added kernel modules to the Edison Linux install.
A custom speaker with integrated amplifier was provided by one of the team members.
A 3D-printed bezel was designed to hold the components.
We have done a partial implementation of the Weather Underground API, consuming the data (the current temperature), though not yet displaying the results.
