Existing Voice Assistance (e.g. Google Assistance/Siri) keeps capturing data from microphone all the time, in order to detect the trigger words/phrases like Hey Google / Siri. This causes a concern about the privacy as user may not prefer the Voice Assistance listens his/her daily activity 24x7. In additional, unintentional trigger may happen by a third party whose speaks the trigger words/phrases but captured by the Voice Assistance.
We propose to leverage the CapSense technology to implement a voice trigger commander.
What are you going to build to solve this problem? How is it different from existing solutions? Why is it useful?
We are going to develop a PSoC 4100S firmware whose detects a pre-defined pattern/gesture and sends an command to mobile via BLE. Besides, we will develop an Android App whose launches Google Assistance when it received command from PSoC.
Instead of turning the microphone on and listening on the existing method, our proposal leverages PSoC to acts as voice trigger hardware.
Comparing to the listening method of the existing approach, our proposal contributes on extending mobile's battery life, thanks to the low power consumption of PSoC. Besides, only the user whose hold the trigger commander can launch Voice Assistance. This eliminates the unintentional launch of Voice Assistance from an unauthorized third party.
How does your solution work? What are the main features? Please specify how you will use the PSoC™ 4100S Pioneer Kit OR CY8CKIT-148 Inductive Sensing Evaluation Kit in your solution.
On the PSoC™ 4100S Pioneer Kit (CY8CKIT-041-41XX), PSoC 4100S runs on low power mode to detect a pre-defined pattern/gesture by the proximity sensor loop and/or CapSense trackpad.
Once the gesture is detected, PSoC 4100S sends mobile device (Android) a "launch voice assistance command" via EZ-BLETM PRoCTM Module.
An App running on the mobile device receives the "command" and launchs voice assistance (Google Assistance).
