The AARP contest https://www.hackster.io/contests/aarpclearly points out the need for seniors with mild cognitive and motor impairments to be assisted in their movements around the home. What better way to do this than to remove the need for “unnecessary steps” and reduce confusion?
This project proposes reducing those steps and confusion for blind seniors with memory loss by providing an audible guidance along their path from couch to the bathroom. Other paths could be added, but this is the most common Use Case. Those who are blind have an enhanced sense of hearing and a devices repeatedly speaking “Follow my voice to the bathroom” can reduce confusion.
This project is based on the familiar Amazon Alexa verbal assistant devices, either and Echo Dot or Echo Show, along the addition of Amazon Echo Buttons, motion sensors and a smart hub.
This project could be installed in the senior’s residence by a friend or family member
