At the initial stage the LED is in off condition. When we press the button, the capacitor starts charging whereas the LED still remains in OFF condition. When we release the button, the LED immediately turns ON for a certain period of time and slowly its intensity starts reducing and after sometime. This is because the fully charged capacitor starts discharging and the LED remains ON until the capacitor is completely discharged. The time limit for which the LED remains in ON condition depends upon the value you use of the capacitor. With higher rating of capacitor the LED can remain ON for more time. I use 220uf capacitor.
