Wayne Thiebaud is an American painter best known for his still lifes of edible treats and everyday objects. His most popular subject matter includes colorful cakes, slices of pie, candy, and the streets of San Francisco.
Mr. Thiebald’s artworks glorified cafeteria treats during a time when America was embracing mass produced gadgets and goods. This time is called Mid-century--- because it was right around 1950-1960. Around this time, a term was coined---“As American as apple pie.” It meant that something was very common and popular---but maybe it was talking about Wayne Thiebauld’s artworks!
