I wanted to extend my Rapsberry Pi 3 and Kodi based home media centre with the ability to receive live TV signal. So I was really excited when Rapsberry Pi released its new Rapsberry Pi TV μHat recently and I bought one immediately.
Installing my new Rapsberry Pi TV μHat onto Rapsberry Pi 3 was really easy - I used this excellent guide to put it together and make it work under Kodi. But I was a bit affraid what kind of housing I will use to cover the naked circuit boards. I had my Rapsberry Pi3 closed in handy aluminium case which ventilates and cools down the system very well. And when I joined Rapsberry Pi 3 with Rapsberry Pi TV μHat I found out it still might fit the original case! I tried it and it worked - the only problem was there was no hole for the new antena connector.
So I measured the position where the hole should be and drilled it into quite soft aluminium. I used several sizes of drills and at the end I cleaned the edges with a small round file. The circuit boards now fit the original case now. Hopefully this experience inspires someone.
