About this project
This project is intended to explore ways of manipulating paper and cardboard to express four sensations: prickly, hot, moist, and mushy. I decided to prototype four wearable fashion accessories, drawing inspiration from each.
- Prickly: small holes punched by a fine sewing pin provide a prickly surface, both randomly and not.
- Moist: the cardboard was dipped and soaked in blue tinted water, heat-dried with a hairdryer.
- HOT: I just really wanted to play with fire! The flame-like shape I got by dampening the surface before applying heat.
- Mushy: loosely gathered tissue paper provides a dry, mushy texture, but pink and red so close to Valentine's Day also evokes memories of excessively sentimental times.
Other experiments included boiling paper with dye, soaking cardboard over the course of a couple of days, shaping wet tissue paper, and burning cardboard until it was reduced to ash.
