I was recently going though my parts drawers and I noticed that I had a lot of parts that I had salvaged from various old electronics by many of them had short leads on this means that it would be hard to use these components in projects.
But I didn't want to throw them away so I decided to turn them into some art. I googled 'electronics component art' and it came up with many different variations.
I decided to make a scorpion and a person out of my components but below are a few other ideas of what art you could make out of your old components.
Once you have chosen and idea for what you want to make you will need to chose what parts you would like to use. I chose to use all of my old salvaged parts. Once you have decided what parts you want to use lay them out so you can see what you have to work with.
As I am building a person I will need to make a wire frame for the rest of the components to mount to. To do this I cut two lengths of plated copper wire and twisted them together using a drill to make it stronger. I then cut the twisted wire to a suitable length and bent them. Once I had all of the pieces bent and cut I soldered them together.
Once the frame was built is used hot glue and solder to attach the components to the frame. Keep adding the components to the frame until the sculpture looks good. I used pieces of PCB as the feet and hot glued them to a wooden base to support the structure.
I also made a scorpion by hot gluing capacitors together and then soldering resistors together to make the legs.
As you can see I'm not a artist.
