COVID-19 is a serious pandemic at this moment. The coronavirus is spreading quickly and easily between humans. The incubation period of this virus is, on average, 5-6 days but it could also be up to 2 weeks. During this period, the person may not experience any symptoms but could still be contagious. The person will be a virus carrier and easily spread it when he/ she does not take any precautionary measures. The new coronavirus that causes COVID-19 enters the body through the respiratory system, causing direct injury to a person's lungs via inflammation and pneumonia — both of which can negatively impact how well oxygen is transferred into the bloodstream. This oxygen impairment can occur at multiple stages of COVID-19, and not simply for critically ill patients placed on ventilators. A pulse oximeter is a painless and reliable way for clinicians to measure a person's blood oxygen levels. I am going to make a smart pulse oximeter which is user friendly and can be used by everyone at home.
Aim/ ObjectiveI am going to build a smart Oximeter which will also measure the temperature. The data measured will be fed to the AWS server and it can be overlooked by a doctor before providing the final results. This is different from existing results because oximeters do not measure temperature and they are not an IoT device like mine. This is useful because it could provide accurate measurements and before people could decide anything after considering the results, the data will be checked by a doctor who will give the correct decision as soon as possible. This can be done remotely, anywhere anytime.
How does this solution work?My Smart Pulse Oximeter will measure heart rate, SPO2 level and temperature levels. The vital measurements will be displayed on the Capacitive Touch Screen and also fed to the AWS Cloud for doctor's verification. SPO2 level or heart rate cannot be the sole tests for COVID-19 but temperature levels could play a role in detecting the disease. AWS IoT Events can be used to detect high temperature levels and respond to it. The vibration motor in the Core2 EduKit will provide haptic feedback to the user. The MAX30101 High Pulse Oximeter and Heart-Rate sensor will be interfaced with the Core 2 for AWS IoT EduKit to measure the heart rate and the temperature of the user. Arduino IDE will be used to program the ESP32 microcontroller and the AWS IoT Core will be used to control and connect the Smart Pulse Oximeter to the AWS Cloud. AWS IoT Events can be used to detect and respond to critical temperature measurements.
