Ready to assemble ISOLATION CABIN
The infectious nature of the COVID-19 has put a tremendous burden on India’s healthcare system; be it a rural primary healthcare centre or the biggest urban hospital. The struggle for isolation wards is rising along with the daily surge of COVID-19 cases across the country. It is this adversity that led Abhimanyu Singh and Shilpi Dua, co-founders of Hexpressions to design a ready-to-assemble isolation cabin that is affordable, light-weight, and eco-friendly. The Jaipur-based social enterprise was founded in 2018 with a vision to provide sustainable, affordable, and modular housing solutions to underserved communities.
A sturdy & durable quarantine solution
Hexpressions’ design creates isolation cabins using paper honeycomb panels – a 100% recyclable material. Each bed can handle a universally-distributed weight of 300kgs. This zero-carbon footprint bed can be put together by 2 people in under 5 mins. Its modular nature renders it flexible to be divided into many enclosures depending on the number of patients who need the cabin. The cardboard panels ensure that each patient gets their privacy without compromising on the norms of physical distancing and safety. The cabin also has enough room for medical staff to attend to the patient as well as handle any equipment that may be needed. Each isolation cabin has an in-built LED light, storage space, and a mobile charging point to ensure that the patient is cared for in a comfortable environment.
With a life-span of 10 years with normal wear-and-tear and a price tag of INR 5000, Hexpressions’ product proves to be a stellar investment than a conventional hospital bed which costs INR12k. It’s plastic-coating ensures that it is water-resistant, and more importantly can be wiped down to be kept hygienic and infection-proof. The product comes with a 5-year warranty for any defects. Thus, making it an extremely low-maintenance healthcare product.
The cabin was constructed keeping in mind patients that show mild or no symptoms of Covid-19. The bed is a quick solution for quarantine but not for critical patients who have to be moved for testing and other emergencies. Despite lockdown constraints and limited production capacity, we can assure to produce and deliver 500 beds within 2 weeks across the country.
