I have the following audio input devices in my room:
- Computer (eg. youtube or winamp)
- Guitar
- Vinly Disc
And the following output devices:
- Amplifier
- Speakers
- Headphones
So I had so many jack cables that I could connect to each other in many ways, depending on the use-cases:
- Computer to Speakers (by default, when listening to NIN)
- Guitar to Amplifier when my wife is not working from home
- Guitar to Headphones when my son is sleeping
- Computer to Headphones when I am programming at night and do not want to disturb my family
- Vinyl to Speakers for background music when a friend visits us
- Vinyl to Headphones when I am drinking whiskey and everyone is sleeping
- ... etc
So I created a small device that does the audio switch for me (I can select what I want to use as input device and where I want to have the output), it looks like this:
Note: my child is a toddler (2.5 yrs old), so he loves playing with stuff with buttons, so I added a child lock (key) as well.
