Lithium-ion Battery Charger Using TP-4056 [Easy]

Hey there! In this project, we are going to make a lithium-ion battery charger using the TP-4056 module.

It is easy to follow as well as pocket friendly. So let's get started.

Supplies:

Materials required for this project:

• Four Lithium-ion battery/batteries 3.7V 18650 (https://tinyurl.com/y4qb3n5s)

• Four TP-4056 Module (https://tinyurl.com/yyowx2w9)

• Lithium-ion Battery holder (4 battery holding capacity)

• Double-sided tapes or hot glue gun

• Soldering iron

• Red and Black wires

• Wire cutter

About TP-4056 Module

IC TP-4056 is a 1A stand-alone single lithium-ion battery charging module with 2 LED indicators for the indication of charging and fully-charged.

Red - charging

Blue - fully-charged

Input Voltage: 4-8 V

Output Voltage: 4.2V

Output Charging Current: 1A (Max) (Adjustable through Rprog)

Advantages:

• Simple to use

• Adjustable Current using a single resistor as discussed above

• Linear Charge

• Small module

Disadvantages:

• Max. Output is 4.2V

• Max. Input is 8V

• Max. Charging Current is 1A.

Glue the TP- 4056 Module on Holder

The battery holder holds 4 li-ion batteries thus we are taking 4 charging modules and glue them to the back of the holder just like shown in the image.

Here I'm using double-sided tape but you can also use a hot glue gun for the purpose.

Connect the Four Charging Modules With Each Other

Now we will connect the four charging modules with each other just like shown in the image/sketch above.

We are doing this so that we only have to give power to any of the given modules and it will power the other 3 modules too.

Connect the input(+) of one module to the input(+) of the other module. Similarly for the ground or negative input terminal.

Warning:Soldering should be done carefully and under the supervision of an adult (for below 18). Keep the soldering iron away from your hands during the use.

Connect the Battery (+) and Battery (-) to the Battery Holder's Positive and Negative Terminal.

Now connect the battery holder's Negative and Positive terminal to the TP-4056 module's positive and negative terminal labeled as B+ and B-.

Note: Each charging module is capable of charging only a single cell.

And the Lithium-ion Battery Charger Is Ready!

Hurray! we have completed the li-ion battery charger.

Insert the batteries into the holder and plug your phone charger into one of the modules.

The red light shows the battery is still charging and the blue light shows the battery is fully charged.

It takes 1.5 to 2 hours to fully charge a battery. (Time it took for me to fully charge my batteries)

Note: Don't overcharge the batteries. Once it is charged, remove it from the holder while the other batteries are still charging.
