People tend to re-use disposable masks due to their accessibility and cost, while re-usable fabric masks are difficult to maintain hygiene.
It is cheap, mass producible hence can be deployed in regions which have various challenges. Since today's disposable masks are made of plastic, they cause serious environmental problems. Since this is paper, it is very environmentally friendly.
This easy to make origami mask gives enough depth for facial curvatures, which fits to everyone and still easy to breath. No need for glue nor staples, just A4 paper and rubber bands. Rubber bands can be replaced by non latex silicon bands for re-usability and avoidance to allergies.
In March 2020, there was shortage of masks in Japan, where my 6-year-old nephew wanted to make his own. Now supply has come to meet demand more or less in Japan, but there are many places in the world that can use cheap and hygiene masks. It's my nephew, Haruki's dream to have this pattern distributed all over the world so that people can wear masks, making the world a safer place.
