Specific Contest Rules
Eligibility
The Contest is open only to persons who are at least the minimum age of majority in their place of residence at of the start of the Entry Period (defined below), and who submit a valid Entry (as defined below) (“Entrant”).
Any national of Belarus, Burma, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Sudan, Venezuela, and/or any country prohibited by law or export restrictions or otherwise, regardless of legal residency, will be disqualified. Residents of the regions of Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk are not eligible. Employees of Sponsor, its subsidiaries, affiliates and agents, and the immediate family (defined as parents, children, siblings, domestic partner, husband or wife) of each such employee, together with those with whom such employees are domiciled, are ineligible.
By participating in the Contest, Participants warrant that they are eligible to participate under the applicable local laws governing procurement of prizes and awards. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any Participant if Sponsor determines, in its sole discretion, that Participant’s participation in the Contest or receipt of prize would violate local law or cause damage to the reputation of AMD and/or any other party. Entrants may be required to submit proof of their eligibility.
Agreement to Official Rules
Entry in the Contest constitutes the Entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to, and acceptance of, these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor and/or Administrator, which are final and binding. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.
You are eligible to enter if you meet the following requirements at the time of entry:
- You are at least 18 years of age. If you are 18 years or younger, you must receive a legal guardian's permission and have them complete Hackster’s contest permission form prior to submitting an entry into this contest. Send any questions to contests@hackster.io.
- You are not involved in the execution or administration of this contest.
You are not an immediate family member or household member of a Hackster, AMD or Avnet employee.
Submission requirements
To be eligible for judging, you must meet ALLthe following requirements.
General Requirements
- You must be registered as a participant for this Contest.
- Your entry must be original to the entrant(s) and cannot have been previously publicly displayed in any manner.
- Your entry cannot have been previously selected as a winner in any other Contest.
- Your team is made up of no more than 5 members per entry.
- By entering this contest, you will automatically be added to the AMD AI Developer’s Program.
*By entering a submission to this contest on behalf of a team, you acknowledge that you are the designated representative authorized to act on behalf of your team. (See full rules below for details)
Hardware Application Requirements
Note: If you choose to submit an application for free hardware or cloud access, you must meet the following requirements. If you will not require hardware or cloud access, continue to 'Hardware/Software Build Requirements' below.
- Your hardware and cloud access application must be submitted via the online application form found on the Contest’s “apply for hardware & cloud access” tab.
- Your application must be written in English.
- You must score 80 or higher on the quiz that is relevant to the Contest category you are applying to.
- Your application must use, as applicable to the corresponding Contest category, an AMD Instinct™ MI210 accelerator, AMD Radeon™ PRO W7900 GPU, AMD Ryzen™ AI -Enabled mini-PC or the AMD Kria™ KR260 Robotics Kit.
- Your hardware and Cloud access application must be submitted via the online application form found on the Contest page’s “Apply for Hardware” tab.
- Your hardware or cloud access application must be submitted by February 29th, 2024 11:59P PT

Hardware/Software Build Requirements
- ·Your project must be created using the required hardware for the category you applied for.
- ·Your project must be created using the following: - AMD Instinct™ MI210 accelerator + AMD ROCm™ or Radeon™ PRO + ROCm - KR260 + Vitis™ AI or PYNQ - Select AMD Ryzen™ processor-based laptops with Ryzen™ AI enabled* + Ryzen™ AI Software Platform
- Your project must solve a problem related to the associated category for your entry.
Project Documentation Requirements
· Your project must include a project name, short project description, cover image, bill of materials (BOM), full instructions, images, and relevant resource files (schematics CAD, commented code, reference models, etc.).
- Your project must be written in English.
- Your project must be submitted by June 30th, 2024.
·Special Prize Category Requirements
- To be eligible for the "Women in Technology" prize, you must be female. If you are entering as a team, your team must have at least 50% female participants.
- To be eligible for the "AMD University Program " prize, you must be a student actively studying in a university program.
Judging criteria
Your project will be judged according to the rubric below.
- Project Documentation (30 points)
Story/Instructions - Show how you created your project, including images, screenshots, and/or a video demonstration of your solution working as intended. Ask yourself: “If I were a beginner reading this project, would I understand how to recreate it?” - Complete BOM (10 points)
Detail the hardware, software and/or tools used. - Code & Contribution (30 points)
Include working code with helpful comments. - Creativity (30 points)
Your idea doesn’t have to be original, but it should be creative (a fresh take on an old idea is often worth as much as a brand new idea)
How to enter
Step 1: Register
- Start by creating a free account on Hackster.io (or sign-in if already a member).
- Register for the contest by clicking “Register as a participant”.
Step 2: Apply for free Hardware & Complete the Category Quiz:
If you do not need free hardware or cloud access, please proceed to Step 4
- You must first take the hardware quiz to qualify for free AMD hardware. Submission for free hardware closes February 29th, 2024.
- You must score 80% on the quiz to qualify. You have an unlimited number of attempts to take the quiz. Scoring over 80% does not guarantee free hardware, only qualification to receive it.
- You will be notified after February 29th, 2024., if you’ve qualified for free hardware or cloud access.
Step 3: Fill out the Submission Form
- Fill out the Project submission form under the "Apply for Hardware" tab: this form will include multiple fields like your name, what you’re planning to create, the components included in your project, the expected total hours your project will take, your skill level, and planned solution details.
What happens if you applied for hardware but did not qualify? You can still join the contest!
- If you applied for free hardware but did not qualify, you can still join the Contest by purchasing your own hardware. Please refer to hardware requirements tab under each category for more details.
Step 4: Build and Document Your Project
- If you qualified and received AMD hardware or cloud access, or purchased your own AMD products, you are ready to begin building your project. Be sure to follow the submission requirements.
- Document your project build using Hackster’s project template. To create a new project, click “create new project” on the Contest page or the “+” symbol in the top right corner of Hackster.
Step 5: Review and submit your project for the Contest
- Review your project and make sure it meets all the submission requirements.
- Upload a previously created project by clicking “add existing project” on the contest page.
- Submit your project by June 30th, 2024 at 11:59 PM PT by clicking “review and submit project” on the contest page.

Common terms used in these Official Rules
These are the full rules that govern how the Contest will operate. In these rules, “we,” “our”, and “us” refer to Hackster and/or AMD, Inc. “You” and “yourself” refer to an eligible Contest participant.
The Official Rules include all eligibility requirements and judging criteria and are found in the “Official Rules” tab of this Contest page.
Contest description:
This is a skill-based Contest Sponsored by AMD and Administered by Hackster.io. The object of this Contest is to create project tutorials using the AMD Instinct™ MI210 accelerator, AMD Radeon™ PRO W7900 GPU, AMD Ryzen™ AI -Enabled PC or the AMD Kria™ KR260 Robotics Kit.
For the purposes of this Contest, each proposal you submit will be called a “Hardware Application” and each project you submit in the Contest is an “Entry”. You must submit a hardware application for each category you wish your entry to be considered for. You may submit an application for more than one category, but you will be awarded hardware for only one category. All eligible entries received will be judged using the judging criteria above to determine the final prize winners.
What are the start and end dates?
Contest starts on November 30th, 2023, at 1:00am PT and ends on May 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM PT and will consist of the following periods:
- Contest projects submission period: November 30th, 2023 at 1:00am PT and ends at June 30th 2024, at 11:59 PM PT
- Free hardware application deadline is February 29th, 2024.at 11:59 PM PT
- Contest winners will be announced on October 10 2024 at 11:59 PM PT.
Note: Contest end dates are at the sole discretion of Contest Sponsor and/or Administrator and may be subject to change.
Am I eligible enter?
· Your entry must be your own, original work.
· Your entry cannot have been selected as a winner in any other Contest or previously publicly displayed in any manner.
· You must have obtained any and all consents, approvals or licenses required for you to submit your entry.
· Your entry may not include any third-party trademarks (logos, names) or copyrighted materials (music, images, video, recognizable people, code, schematics etc.) unless you have obtained permission from the copyright owner(s) to use the materials.
Hardware applications and/or project entries may NOT contain ANY of the following content:
- Content that is sexually explicit, profane, or pornographic.
- Content that is unnecessarily violent or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious, professional, or age group.
- Content that promotes illegal drugs, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing) or a particular political agenda.
- Content that is obscene or offensive in the Sponsor and/or Administrator’s sole discretion.
- Content that defames, misrepresents or contains disparaging remarks about any third-party including individuals or organizations.
- Content that communicates messages or images inconsistent with the positive images and/or good will to which we wish to associate.
- Content that violates any federal, state, or local law.
Sponsor and/or Administrator reserve the right to reject an entry, in their sole discretion, if it is determined that the entry contains any of the above content.
Can I enter this contest as a team?
You can enter as a team of no more than five (5) members.
The following requirements must be satisfied to participate in this Contest as a team:
- Your team must choose one individual (the “representative”) to speak for, act, and enter a project submission on behalf of your team.
- Each individual team member must meet ALL eligibility and Contest requirements outlined in these Official Rules.
How will my entry be potentially used?
Other than what is set forth below, Sponsor and Administrator are not claiming any ownership rights to your entry. However, by submitting your entry, you agree to ALL of the following statements:
- ·You grant Sponsor and Administrator an irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide right and license to: (i) use, review, assess, test, and otherwise analyze your entry and all its content in connection with this Contest; and (ii) feature your entry and all associated content in the marketing or promotion of this Contest, including but not limited to internal and external sales meetings, conference presentations, tradeshows, and screen shots of this contest entry Contests releases) in all media (now known or later developed).
- You agree to sign any necessary documentation that may be required for Sponsor and/or Administrator to make use of the rights granted herein.
- You understand that after the submission deadline has passed, any project that has been submitted to the Contest cannot be deleted or made private and will remain on the Contest website after the contest has closed.
- ·You understand and acknowledge that Sponsor and/or Administrator may have developed or commissioned materials similar or identical to your submission and you waive any claims you may have resulting from any similarities to your entry.
- ·You understand that you will not receive any compensation or credit for use of your entry, other than what is described in these Official Rules
Important Note about Copyright:
Your entire entry must only include material (including hardware, source code – both open source and third party sourced, user interface, music, video, or images) that you own or that you have permission from the copyright/trademark owner to use. You and/or your team’s entry may not include copyrighted materials (such as source code, user interface, background music, images, or video) unless you own or have permission to use the materials in your entry. Your entry will be disqualified if copyrighted materials are a part of your entry without appropriate licensing or permissions. If you do use permissible copyrighted materials, you must include the permissions information by citing the artist/creator and license information. Note that even material released under sites such as Creative Commons, common open-source code licenses, and other similar licensing may need permission or acknowledgement as per the specific license. By submitting an entry to the Contest, you grant Sponsor and Administrator an irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide right and license to use, review, assess, test, and otherwise analyze your entry and all its content in connection with this Contest. If you do not want to grant us these rights to your entry, please do not enter this Contest.
How is hardware awarded?
Limit one (1) set of free hardware per individual entrant or team. The decisions of Sponsor and/or Administrator are final and binding. Sponsor and Administrator reserve the right to award less hardware than described here in the overview section of the contest page, if there are not a sufficient number of hardware application received. To be eligible for free hardware you must meet the hardware application requirements above. An application for free hardware cannot be altered or removed from the Contest after the submission deadline has passed.
After applying for free hardware, you will be asked to complete a quiz to determine your eligibility to receive the hardware. You must score 80% on the quiz to qualify. You have an unlimited number of attempts to take the quiz. Scoring over 80% does not guarantee free hardware, only qualification to receive it.
If you are a potential hardware recipient, we will notify you by sending a message to the e-mail address provided at time of entry within seven (7) days following completion of selecting the recipients of the free hardware. If the notification that we send is returned as undeliverable, or you are otherwise unreachable for any reason, we may award the hardware to another Contest participant.
If you are confirmed as a free hardware recipient of this Contest, the following rules apply:
- ·You may not designate someone else as the recipient of the hardware. If you are unable or unwilling to accept the free hardware, we may award it to another Contest participant.
- You will be solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes related to accepting the hardware, if you choose to accept the hardware.
- By accepting the free hardware, you are entering into a contract with Hackster stating that you will build, document, and submit a project by the Contest deadline. If, for any reason, you cannot complete a project with the hardware you have received, you must inform us by sending an email to prithvi.mattur@amd.com. You may be asked to return the hardware. If you do not submit a project and do not return the hardware, you may be banned from participating in future Contests.
Once the hardware leaves our warehouse, Sponsor and Administrator cannot be held liable for any shipments that do not arrive or are delayed and are under no obligation to replace lost shipments or missing or broken parts. If you have questions regarding your shipment, please contact us at Unless otherwise noted, all hardware allocations are subject to the manufacturer’s warranty (if any) and/or terms and conditions.
Up to a total of 700 pieces of AMD hardware and cloud instances will be awarded. Each Contest category described above will receive a separate allotment of hardware. Each geographic region will also receive its own allotment.
How are prizes awarded?
Limit one (1) prize per person or team. In the event of a tie between any eligible entries, an additional judge will break the tie based on the judging criteria described above. The decisions of the judges are final and binding. If we do not receive a sufficient number of entries meeting the entry requirements, we may, in our sole discretion, select fewer winners than the number of prizes described above.
If you are a potential winner, we will notify you by sending a message to the e-mail address, the phone number, or mailing address (if any) provided at time of entry within seven (7) days following completion of judging. If the notification sent is returned as undeliverable, or you are otherwise unreachable for any reason, we may award the applicable prize to a runner-up. If there is a dispute as to who is the potential winner, we will consider the potential winner to be the authorized account holder of the e-mail address used to enter the Contest. If you are a potential winner, we may require you to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability/Publicity Release and/or a W-9 tax form or W-8 BEN tax form ] within ten (10) days of notification. You are advised to seek independent counsel regarding the tax implications of accepting a prize. If you do not complete the required forms as instructed and/or return the required forms within the time period listed on the winner notification message, we may disqualify you and select a runner-up as the potential winner.
If you are confirmed as a winner of this Contest, the following rules apply:
- You may not exchange your prize for cash or any other merchandise or services. However, if for any reason an advertised prize is unavailable, we reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value.
- You may not designate someone else as the winner. If you are unable or unwilling to accept a prize, we may award it to a runner up.
- You will be solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes related to accepting the prize, if you choose to accept the prize.
- If a prize is awarded to a project submitted by a team, the designated representative will be the sole recipient of said prize, unless otherwise agreed upon in writing by the representative and his/her team.
What if something unexpected happens and the Contest cannot run as planned?
If someone cheats, or a virus, bug, bot, catastrophic event, or any other unforeseen or unexpected event that cannot be reasonably anticipated or controlled, (also referred to as force majeure) affects the fairness and/or integrity of this Contest, we reserve the right to cancel, change or suspend this Contest. This right is reserved whether the event is due to human or technical error. If a solution cannot be found to restore the integrity of the contest, we reserve the right to select winners from among all eligible entries received before we had to cancel, change or suspend the Contest. If you attempt, or if we have strong reason to believe that you have compromised the integrity or the legitimate operation of this Contest by cheating, hacking, creating a bot, or other automated program, or by committing fraud in ANY way, we may seek damages from you to the fullest extent permitted by law. Further, we may disqualify you, and ban you from participating in any future Contest.
What other conditions am I agreeing to by entering?
By entering this contest you are agreeing to the following statements:
- You agree to abide by these full rules.
- You agree to abide by the policies outlined on Hackster’s website, including our Terms of Service, Code of Conduct and Privacy Policy.
- You agree to release and hold harmless Hackster, AMD and their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, employees and agents from any and all liability or any injury, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this contest, or any prize won.
- You agree that your personal data including your name, email address, personal address, phone number, and any other personal information disclosed during the duration of this contest may be shared with and used by Hackster and AMD in order to facilitate the execution of this contest.
- You agree that Hackster’s decisions will be final and binding on all matters related to this contest.
- You agree that, by accepting a prize, Hackster may use your proper name and state of residence online and in print, or in any other media, in connection with this contest, without payment or compensation to you, except where prohibited by law.
By entering, you grant Sponsor and Administrator an irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide right and license to use, review, assess, test and otherwise analyze your entry and all its content in connection with this Contest.
Release:
· By entering, Entrant agrees to release and hold harmless Sponsor, Administrator, and each of their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, advertising/promotion agencies and each of their respective parent companies and each such company’s officers, directors, employees and agents (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action, including, but not limited to, damage to or loss of property, arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize.
What laws govern the way this contest is executed and administered?
This contest will be governed by the laws of the State of Texas and you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the Texas state courts located in Travis County or in the Western District of Texas Federal Court, for any disputes arising out of this contest.
Contest Disputes:
Participant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas or the appropriate Texas State Court located in Travis County, Texas; (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Contest, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (3) under no circumstances will Participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and Participant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased.
Contest Results: The winners list will be available in English on or around July 15, 2024. To request a copy of the list of winners, contests@hackster.io. Requests for the names of the winners must be received within fourteen (14) days of the close of the Contest. Requests received after this time will not be honored.
