NeoDigito was born in a project that needed to show a lot of numbers and the capability to change colors depending on the value.
Before NeoDigito, we designed boards with addressable RGB LED´s whit fixed digits in them. The values were not intended to change, but the digits had to turn off and on. Having one single pin to control them was very useful.
In order to simplify the design of the boards, we decided to make modules of 7-segment displays. The first prototypes were made with CNC router and soldered by hand.
We built more boards with different sizes and segment order. The project got the name NeoDigito.
It's compatible with any microcontroller supported by the Arduino IDE, we designed a library for it, making NeoDigito easy to use, for example, marking the break time at work, production counter, likes counter for social media, classroom clock, dynamic signals in public areas, remote control by WiFi (IoT), display sensor data, even countdown clock for the New Year!
Check the library on GitHub.
The library simplify write numbers and text to the NeoDigitos. Use print() to show numbers, symbols or full words in colors.
The best part are the pre-programmed color effects that only require calling them by name, such as RAINBOW, RANDOM and XMAS.
They are modular, connect quite easy as many as you need, virtually there's no limit. Just make sure to power them properly.
You can find the PCB designs here.
In this instructable you can learn how to build an IoT Clock with 4 NeoDigitos.
Inventoteca is a creative laboratory, dedicated to offer technological solutions through engineering and science, located in Puebla city, Mexico.
We continue and share the work started in collaboration with Iván Rios de Paz (Xircuitos MX), victim of COVID19, as a tribute to his memory.
Support us on KickstarterWe are looking for the construction of alphanumeric models (with different font styles), preserving all functionality described before and maintain the library. Support the campaign here.
With a target price of $5, the NeoDigito modules look like a great option for anywhere you need to show some numbers and colors!
