For a while I've had a Spark Core sitting unused and a Colorduino which is great for showing off at Maker Faire's and Expo's but wasn't really being put to good use.
The Colorduino can be controlled with I2C but I never really had the time to sit down and learn how to make use of it.
I started having a poke around the documentation for the new IFTTT integration with Spark Cloud and it really got me excited about what could be done with these two dev boards... Then I ran into the awesome Beakn project by Jon Gallant.
I work from home... lucky me!
The downside of working from home is the interruptions... I have a stay at home wife and two toddlers, so that happens often! I spent ages looking for a good solution to the problem and toyed with Blinksticks, amongst other things but it didn't really work as I hoped. So I tried out Beakn on my spare Core using the built in RGB LED and its so beautifully simple and lightweight on my PC to update from my Lync status it just begged to be added to!
The Project So Far
I started by getting the Beakn working and it was the perfect starting point to add this matrix to... and it snowballed from there!
It now does:
- Morning Alerts of Rain
- Displays my Lync Status (Beakn)
- Integrates with Dash to show an animation when I'm driving
- Lots more to come...
