I'm a Raspberry Pi hardware beginner and I love watching movies and videos.
I was thinking, is there any simple way to connect the Raspberry Pi with watching videos?
So I started to search for possible ways to realize that.
There are two main methods, one is to set the Raspberry Pi as a normal PC, and then install the corresponding software. Another method, the one we'll discuss today, is using specialized operating systems.
There are a variety of operating systems available for this, including RasPlex, Open Source Media Center (OSMC), and Kodi (XBMC).
Things need to be prepared:* Raspberry Pi 4
* MicroSD card (preferably at least 16GB)
* USB power adapter (most mobile chargers will work fine)
* Monitor/TV display
* Keyboard and mouse
* External hard drive (for storage media)
Once the above things are ready, you can get started!
Steps:1. Download the OSMC image from here – https://osmc.tv/
2. On yo PC or laptop, install Etcher (for Mac, Windows, and Linux).
- warning: you might get stuck with the image, showing: User did not grant permission.
- Tips: just download the lower version, which is 1.5.24. and add both:
C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0
C:\Windows\System32
back into the PATH using the environment variables editor, and then re-run the computer.
3. Connect your microSD card to your machine Select the image file in Etcher and write it to your SD card
4. Insert the microSD card into your Raspberry Pi
5. Connect the Pi to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and power it on
6. Add your media through the UI and you're ready to rock
Now, enjoy and have fun!
