The other day I took on the gratefulness of a nearby neighbor with this Dutch bike in need of some TLC. Here in Belgium, where I live, people leave on the sidewalk home appliances and even bicycles like this one for anyone with interest to pick up and take ownership. So I did. After all it did have a piece of paper saying "Gratis", so why not do a refurbish to it?
This bicycle was in a ruff shape. It had flat tires. The front suspension was locked and not working, and the breaks, well, did not break all that much. All fixable with the right common tools.
What caught my attention on this particular bike was the fact it has an EV installation and although, when I picked it up, it showed no sign of working, I know I am more than capable to disassemble it for repairs. This meant I needed to open the battery pack enclosure, first, however I didn't have a key, so I decided to view some good pick lock tutorials on YouTube....Here's one "How to pick a lock without any special tools"
After washing and cleaning this is how the frame looks like almost ready for reassembly.
Battery pack is good....the electronics running it, no. The brushless DC motor controller is not working and also the bicycle did not have any EV power charger so I'll be needing to buy one on AliExpress. There's a power charger here and a controller here. The battery level indicator was was damaged , showing signs of water damage and a lot of rust, but the electronics were good , and I only needed to replace a rusty push button ( sold here) on the PCB after some proper PCB cleaning.
Stay tuned for more!
