Back Story for this Project:
Read moreI am an enthusiastic gardener and I care a lot for my plants. Although I am an enthusiast I am not really good at gardening. In fact, there were times when the plants used to wither away within a few weeks of being potted.
With the help of the Bolt IoT module and a little handy work, I was able to set up a light monitoring system to find out whether my plants were getting enough sunlight or not, and figure out how to best place my plants so that they receive the best levels of sunlight.
Steps for making the hardware connections:(Note: There is no positive or negative for LDR and the 10k Ohm resistor.)
- Step 1: Insert one lead of the LDR into the Bolt Module's 3v3 Pin and insert other lead of the LDR into the A0 pin
- Step 2: Insert one leg of the 10k Ohm resistor into the GND pin and the other leg of the resistor also into the A0 pin.
- This is the required Plant monitoring system and is now ready for use.
- Set up the above connections and place it near a plant. (NOTE: The Bolt WiFi module should be powered up and must have a WiFi connection. We must use a power bank or a power supply extension along with a micro USB cable)
- Allow the system to log data points for about 1 day/1 week (as per your convenience and requirement) and examine when the plant gets the maximum and minimum amount of light.
- After this, download the data from the view page and plot the graph for this data in an excel sheet.
- This is the plotted graph after scrutinizing the amount of light a plant receives withing a week.
