"Irazu" is an affordable, sustainable, and user-friendly assistive technology device designed to aid people with disabilities, particularly those with quadriplegia or similar conditions, in accessing and controlling their computers. It enables users to move the mouse cursor using head or lip movements and perform cursor clicks through breath control (sip and puff).
My decision to create Irazu stemmed from the need to combat the technological and economic discrimination faced by many individuals with disabilities. I aimed to provide an inclusive and cost-effective solution to enhance their quality of life.
The device operates with a sip and puff switch for cursor clicks, and users can control the joystick using movements of their lips or head.
By facilitating hands-free interaction with computers, Irazu fosters accessibility and independence for those with limited mobility.
The construction manual for Irazu is available in both Spanish and English, promoting the use of common and easily accessible materials and components. This approach empowers people with disabilities to build the device themselves without requiring expensive equipment or advanced programming knowledge, making it accessible to individuals with limited resources.

I hope Irazu can make a positive impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities by providing them with an inclusive and affordable assistive technology solution.
