Download the file MIDI_sample.mid from Wikipedia page.
Locate the downloaded file and right mouse click directly on the file icon. Go to Open with and look at the available selections. Your operating system automatically selects media player programs to open.mid and.midi format files.
VLC wants to play the midi sample file. Linux will open and play automatically. Windows needs an additional codec to do this. Let's go through all the steps required.
The message is directing us to this panel in VLC Advanced Preferences. In project Let's Play a SoundFont we copied the default soundfont from a Linux computer onto Windows. Use that soundfont for VLC. Soundfonts are available online for free and for purchase.
