I bought a DIODER RGB LED strip from IKEA some time ago and it was set behind my media rack. The lightning effect it produces is very cool but the control is tied to a cable of about a meter length and I could only reach the control by opening a drawer. In the end I never used it because I was to lazy to get off the couch and change the color. So when I got my first Spark Core I asked myself: Can't I control the light with it?
After searching the web a little I found a guy in Sweden who build a Ambilight-like device for his computer using IKEA DIODER and an Arduino. So my girlfriend and I decided that this will be the next of our weekend projects.
After some trial an error we brought it to work and made a Spark Cloud method that would take a string like RED(100)GREEN(200)BLUE(100) to set the color. After this first break through we made a WebApp for our phones and now we can control the color of the light using our phones.
If you want to build this you will only need a very few things:
The very first hand-wired PCB in our "human 3D printed" case and updated schematics with an voltage regulator.
