I decided to emboss a notebook as part of a secret Santa gift collection. Making use of a 3D printer makes this process really simple. First check out the video!
I decided to emboss the word LEGIT. I started by taking my favourite CAD software(the one you know best) and putting the word on a flat 2mm think piece. It will have to be mirrored on the piece to show up properly on the book. The words are also 2mm in height making the whole piece 4mm. A quick print.
Here it is loaded up in Cura.
Proceed to 3D printing the design. It needs to be relatively strong, so set a good amount of infill. I chose to do 80%. The print took about 15 minutes.
Once the print is finished I got a couple of scrap pieces of wood. I hot glued the small piece to the 3D print to make it easier to center when its all together in the vise. I also glued the other piece of wood to the vise to temporarily hold it while I set up everything.
Carefully align the 3D print so its in the position where you want to emboss design on the cover. Once its in the right place, tighten the vise as much as you can and leave for a few minutes.
Remove it from the vise. That's it, you're done!
