For the Build2gether Inclusive Innovation Challenge one of the topics of interest was improving the swimming experience for those with disabilities by creating assistive technology. During the course of the competition I heard from Marc about the difficulty swimming at night so this project was created to serve a real need with the community by providing a clear visual indicator at a distance of your lane lines.
ProjectThis project is a simple device to aid with night swimming. For those with visual impairments it may be a device that makes the difference between going swimming at all versus staying on the side.T
The project is a simple bit of code to just trigger some LEDs but with the setup of these devices it allows for a cheap option for creating a visible indicator. The first and last 3 LEDs are set to red while the rest are set to blue allowing for a clear lane to be present with visible sides to gauge the user's location at a distance.
It's a fairly simple setup and a very easy to put together project as it can be done in a no soldering way.
In PracticeThe device works great at night. With the semi translucent filament I used it helps diffuse the colors as well. The parts being on the cheaper side also make this project viable for constructing several lanes without hurting the budget too heavily.
