Roomba Pine uvRob
This robot is designed for homes and offices. The uvRob has ultraviolet (UV) light distributed on three sessions: head, upper, and lower body. The UV light sessions are mounted on a mobile platform which wheels and obstacles sensors. The Obstacle sensors help robot to navigate and avoid objects on the floor.
For floor and under desk operations, the head is controlled to lower position that robot can go under chairs.
For desk surface and ceiling operation, the head is controlled to raise above the desk so it head light can emit light on the desk surface and spread to wall and ceiling. The lights on the upper and lower body emit light in omnidirection hit most object along the walls.
The more advanced design of the robot can have additional components as showed the diagram above. The camera help robot to navigate more accurate in a the area. With the projection of UV light, the camera can also use to capture contaminate location. With this information, the main controller can command the light increase brightness for to spray sanitizer on the suspect location.
Microphone can be used for user voice command or recording surrounding sound level. Buttons let user to setup and control robot operation. The head obstacle, navigation, and environmental sensors provide information for robot navigation. This can help to map and calculate operation paths in buildings for a homes. The environmental sensors also provides ambient conditions like temperature, humidity, air quality in the area.
The UV light of each session can be controlled by uv light controllers to turn on/off for adjust brightness. The UV light can neon tube type or LEDs.
The linear actuator controller and the linear actuator drives the head raise up and down. The head obstacle sensors provide information for the head motion, avoiding obstacles.
The sanitizer container is used to store sanitizer liquid. The liquid can be pumped to the nozzle when need.
The left and right motors drive the robot to move. The caster wheel helps the robot navigate easier. The left and right motor controller can give information of odometer of robot
For prototyping the uvRob, I used an iRobot vacuum for mobile platform.
