There is an opportunity to create a network of BLE devices in almost any setting, to monitor smoke detectors, break-in conditions, and health emergencies. This opportunity creates a need for a BLE signaling light to make clear where the emergency is occurring. Between the growth of an aging population and the proliferation of wireless technology versus hard wired devices, this meets a need that is present in almost every situation.
The device would have applications in residential homes, multiple unit dwellings, assisted living facilities, hospitals, hotels, dormitories, schools, and office buildings.
A simple app in a cell phone also can trigger a panic mode which would turn on the flashing RED (or other light color) light at the same instant the app activates email alerts, text alert or a phone call to 911 or other service provider.
In the normal condition , the light works as a normal white light bulb. But in an emergency condition it flashes bright RED. This serves to clarify the exact location of the emergency, which could mean the difference between life and death.
The use of synchronized alternating RED and BLUE lights could indicate police response is on its way, which is often sufficient to drive away intruders in a security situation.
There are also an incredibly large number of non-emergent uses for a multi-color capable light in all of the use settings that have been mentioned. This could range from providing everything needed to convey status for people with impaired hearing, like the doorbell has been pressed or email has arrived, to simply providing mood lighting.
Voice commands can be used, with the help of Amazon Alexa Voice Services or something similar, to cancel alarm conditions and also control the non-emergent uses.
Technical Details
Perhaps the best way of doing this would be to have the timing of color sequences and timing of the brightness profile programmable in the light bulb so that one BLE command causes the flashing to occur until another BLE command causes the flashing to stop. A demonstration system could be made before such a bulb is constructed.
