Lightning is a natural phenomena which is beautiful, but at the same time may be dangerous if you are too close to the storm front. And it would be interesting to build a Storm Catcher, using Sony Spresence board and additional light and sound sensors.
In this project I first try to use LDR sensor to check if there are sudden changes in the light intensity, which may be caused the lightning.
If yes, next step is to use microphone to listen for the surrounding sound. As per some research papers, e.g. "Lightning" book by Martin A. Uman, thunder has a dominant frequency in 100 Hz range.
So, if the system can detect a sound in that frequency range within the first 5 seconds after the lightning, then all 4 indicators on Spresence board would be switched on to indicate that the thunder storm in a dangerous proximity.
