The global pandemic caused by corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) which induces the Corona virus disease (CoviD-19) has taken the world by surprise as people are dying in thousands on daily basis. This virus is said to be highly contagious and over eleven million people in more than two hundred countries have been affected globally. According to the WHO (2020), there is no solution (cure or vaccine) for CoviD-19 to date. Consequently, there is urgent need for countries to look inwards on how to mitigate the spread of the corona virus in order to flatten the infection rate curve.
Impulsive face touching, re-contamination by manual hand sanitizing and maintaining social distancing alongside early detection of Covid-19 and insufficient testing equipment are the major challenges in combating Covid-19. These are the baseline motivation for this proposal. The design and implementation of Sentinel Wearable Electronic Device (SWED) for prevention and detection of Covid-19 is proposed. SWED will be able to profile the basic symptoms of COVID-19, ensure strict compliance to social distancing and allows user's hands to be regularly sanitized whilst controlling spontaneous hand to face touch. It will also report positive test to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Emergency Management System (EMS). The project when implemented will mitigate the spread of corona virus (SARSCoV-2) and other related communicable disease and reduce the mortality rate attributed to chronic respiratory disease as project intends to perform continues monitoring of oxygen blood map.
