I am working on a direct granules extruder for a long time now. Prototype Version 3 now works really reliable. The mechanical components are sourced from a hardware store around my corner and all parts are handcrafted. The main trick of the construction is to use a normal wood screw as auger. That screw also doesn't reach through the whole extruder, but drives the granulate only from the cold zone. the tip of the screw reaches just a bit into the melting zone:
