If you ever wanted a customisable smart light that you can add as many patterns as your imagination (and code skills🙊) allow you to, look no further, this project is made for YOU!
The variety of sensors offered by the Matrix Creator, in particular the 8 microphones array, associated with Chirp's technology to transfer data via sound, gives you the ability to have a fun smart light entirely controlled via sound with a smartphone or any device compatible with Chirp's SDKs -- ditching the need of any Bluetooth or WiFi configuration 🙂
1) The hardware 🔩The setup is pretty easy to put in place. All you need is a Matrix Creator, any Raspberry Pi that can receive the Matrix hat (1, 2 or 3), and optionally a nice lamp shade to give a nice look to your light. The shade link I gave is the one I use as I find it nice and the base fits quite well with the size of the Matrix board.
2) The software 💻All the source code is stored on my Github repository linked to this project. It is made to be as easy as "Download - Build - Let the light be!" The only thing you will have to do is to register for free at https://developers.chirp.ioin order to get your credentials to be able to use Chirp's technology.
3) The setup ⚙️All the setup to get the code, to compile and to run is explained in the Readme of the code repository.
4) Limitations 😬The light is only controllable with an iPhone at the moment, the iOS project to build it being bundled in the Github repo. However, it should not be hard to replicate the project for Android as my coding skills for iOS are quite rudimentary, therefore making the iOS code fairly simple.
5) Result 🎇Here is a short video showing the final result!
