"Now Moses turned and went down from the mountain [bearing] the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets inscribed from both their sides; on one side and on the other side they were inscribed" (Exodus - Chapter 32, Verse 15)
This verse, has inspired me to create a work of art in the form of a transparent laser-cut acrylic board, reflecting the Ten Commandments. According to the Talmud, the tablets were created at the end of the six days of creation, in the twilight, as part of several miraculous things created by to serve the world in the future.
I have sought to bring the miraculous dimension of the original creation of the tablets to life through the use of floating LED lighting, which receives its energy from an inductive coil. The Talmud also expands on the miracles in the design of the tablets in Sabbath Tractate, page 104, and I hoped to capture a sense of this wonder in my hoovering acrylic board.
To clarify, the work I did was:
- 3D Cad design for the inductive coil housing.
- 2D Laser cut design using the Lightburn software.
- Assembly.
The heart of the product is based on inductive coil from Adafruit and Small Inductive Wireless LEDs in different colors.
See links the different parts in hardware component section.
- I am in possession of a Diode Laser machine (Ortur Laser Master 3). This machine is capable of cutting acrylic sheets, but not clear acrylic. As a result, I had to outsource the engraving work to a laser house that uses CO2 machines.
- To secure the LEDs and the power connector to the 3D printed housing, I used simple epoxy glue.
- Tying and balancing the nylon fishing wire was a bit tricky, but I managed...
- All in all Assembly was straight forward, just spent some time in adjusting the electronic circuit and wiring carefully to the electronic compartment.
