Making a Wooden MIDI Guitar with the Touch Board

We love to hear from our community and the projects they make. So we were thrilled when Yoosang contacted us to show us her latest work: a MIDI guitar made out of wood and utilising the Touch Board. Being a member of Litchee Lab, based in Shenzhen, she was able to cut the wood for the guitar with a laser cutter. Using copper tape as the strings and attaching the Touch Board, Yoosang had made herself a nice little guitar!

Materials: To begin you will need:

1x Touch Board
1x speaker
copper tape
wood (3mm）
spray paint
hot glue gun
cardboard

Step 1:

Using the laser cutter, Yoosang cut the wood and cardboard and engraved a message within the wood: “litcheelab MIDI guitar”. After the wood cutting, she sprayed painted it to give it a more natural look.

For the side of the guitar, Yoosang designed a special pattern with InDesign to make the wood flexible and fit around the body of the guitar. Once all pieces were ready, they were glued together using a hot glue gun. A piece of cardboard was used to reinforce the neck of the guitar.

Finally, the Touch Board and the speakers were attached and by applying some copper tape to the Touch Board, Yoosang was able to create strings for the guitar.
