Overview
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Microchip Smart Medical Design Challenge and congratulations to all of our winners! The Microchip team, on behalf of the judges, requested that a few short notes on the winning projects be shared with all of you both here on the contest overview and on the discussion forum! Check them out below:
Smart Pill Dispenser - Winner, Best Overall
Smart pill and medication dispensing is becoming more critical due to ever increasing demand for home and telehealth care solutions. Using both Microchip’s AVT-IoT WA board for smart, connected and secure access to Amazon’s Web Services and the Arduino Mega 2560 board, based on Microchip’s 8-bit ATmega2560 MCU this entry demonstrates impressive electrical, firmware and mechanical design.
The AVR-IoT WG: Out for Blood Pressure Monitoring in Google - Winner, Best in Remote Patient Monitoring/Telehealth
This entry shows how to navigate the complexities of reading the correct data out of a medical device and it also shows how easy and quick it is to get that data connected to and authenticated on Google’s Cloud IoT Core platform using Microchip’s AVR-IoT WG board. The final solution demonstrates a real-world method to convert standard medical devices quickly and cost-effectively into telehealth devices.
Smart Liquid Medicine Dispenser - Winner, Best in Drug Delivery
This entry solves the problem of safe, liquid medication dispensing to children and seniors. Using the Microchip’s AVR-IoT WG board, as well as a Microchip’s AT42QT2120 touch and input sensing controller this entry highlights the best of telehealth and drug delivery, making it a great example of a smart, connected and secure medical design.
Microchip Digital Dosette - Winner, Bonus Wildcard
This entry represents a solid solution to safe and low-cost drug delivery. The medication dispenser design demonstrates a telemedicine application using both Microchip’s RN2483 LoRa® Transceiver Module and the high-performance ATmega328 8-bit MCU.
