The driving force of Piezo Linear Stage is miniature piezoelectric linear motor. Such linear motors have very high force to weight ratio. For example, built in cross-roller-stage they could position a weight upto 200g horizontally in sub-micrometer steps and ±3um repeatability (depending on encoder). In full stroke they could reach normal speed of 15 mm/sec bidirectionally. The travel range can reach 25mm with customized dual drive heads.
Featuring precision psoitioning with no backlash, low noise and compact footprint, these linear motors are ideal for hand-held metrology devices, remote sensing and labor automations.
The operation priciple of piezo linear motors is shown in this diagram:
To operate this device you need a PWM with up to 35Vpp with a frequency up to 250 kHz. Movement is controlled by the duty cycle of the PWM.
For the generation of the PWM signal a special hardware is required. This is split in a part for communication and control of the PWM signal on TTL level (Teensy4.0).
The second part is responsible to transform to the 35V level with the required power.
Commands-InterfaceThe communication interface is RS-232 with 115200 Baud, 8,N,1.
There are commands available for general settings e.g. PWM base frequency and also for dynamic settings of the PWM duty cycle or to move the piezo linear motor forward (>fo), backward (>re) or bidirectionally (>bi).
For easy user interface there is a GUI available.
This is a list of available commands generated by PiezoTerminal
