This is a simple electronic circuit which can be done easily as for mini project. To create this digital dice I have mainly used 555 timer IC and 4017 IC. In this digital dice I have used 6 LEDs each LED represent a number from 1 to 6 of dice. LEDs start flashing as we press the push button and stops when we release it.After release, illuminated LED will tell the number you got on dice.Like 5th number LED remains on after releasing the button, means you got 5 on dice.
We have connected 6 LEDs to the output Q0 to Q5, and the seventh output Q6 is connected back to the RESET PIN. so that after LED 6 it starts from the first LED at Q0. To apply the clock pulse at PIN 14 of 4017 IC, We have used 555 timer IC in Astable mode. The oscillated output generated at PIN 3 of 555 has been applied to the PIN 14 of 4017 IC, so that output can be advanced at each clock pulse. We can control the speed of flashing LEDs by using the variable resistor knob will change oscillation frequency of 555 timer.
Circuit diagram -connection Description-
First let's start with 555 timer IC connections, short PIN 4 and PIN 8 and connect PIN 4 to VCC or positive end. Connect PIN 8 to fixed end of variable resistor or potentiometer. Connect PIN 7 to variable end of potentiometer. Short PIN 6 and PIN 2 connect PIN 6 to another fixed end of potentiometer. Connect PIN 1 to GND. connect capacitor's positive end to 2 and negative end to GND. connect PIN 3 to one terminal of switch or Push button.
Now for 4017 IC, first of all connect PIN 16 to VCC and PIN 8 to GND. Now short PIN 3 of 555 timer IC with PIN 14 of 4017 IC. Connect PIN 13 to another terminal of switch or push button and also connect PIN 13 to GND. Short PIN 15 and PIN 5 of 4017 IC now connect positive end of LED1, LED2, LED3, LED4, LED5, LED6 to PIN 10, PIN 1, PIN 2, PIN 3, PIN 4, PIN 7 respectively. At last connect power supply of 5V
In the above circuit we have used 5V supply. Similarly, by using 9V supply we can make digital dice. The only addition we have to do in above circuit is that to connect a 1k resistor between PIN 7 and PIN 8 of 555 timer IC and that's it your another circuit is also ready.
Here is the breadboard image for Digital dice with 9V supply
