Arduino Flash Text on SSD1306 OLED Display

Step 1: What You Will Need

• Arduino UNO (or any other Arduino or ESP)
• OLED Display
• Jumper wires
• Breadboard
• Visuino program: Download Visuino

Step 2: The Circuit

• Connect OLED pin [VCC]to arduino pin [5V]
• Connect OLED pin [GND]to arduino pin [GND]
• Connect OLED pin [SCL]to arduino pin [SCL]
• Connect OLED pin [SDA]to arduino pin [SDA]

Step 3: Start Visuino, and Select the Arduino UNO Board Type

The Visuino: https://www.visuino.eu also needs to be installed. Download Free version or register for a Free Trial.

Start Visuino as shown in the first picture Click on the "Tools" button on the Arduino component (Picture 1) in Visuino When the dialog appears, select "Arduino UNO" as shown on Picture 2

Step 4: In Visuino Add & Set Components

• Add "Pulse Generator" component
• Add "Digital Multi Source" component
• Add "Detect Edge" component
• Add "OLED I2C" component
• Select "DetectEdge1" and in the properties window set "Rising" to False <<This means that It will detect when the pulse is going from True to False
• Double click on the "DisplayOLED1" and in the "Elements" window
• drag "Draw Text" to the left side and in the "Properties" window set "Size" to 3 and "Text" to Flash <<You can adjust size, text and position if you want
• Also drag "Fill Screen" to the left side
• Close the "Elements" window

Note: If you want to adjust the speed of blinking select "PulseGenerator1" and in the "Properties" window change the frequency,

Step 5: In Visuino Connect Components

• Connect "PulseGenerator1" pin [Out] to "DigitalMultiSource1" pin [In]
• Connect "DigitalMultiSource1" pin [0] to "DisplayOLED1" > "Draw Text1" pin [clock]
• Connect "DigitalMultiSource1" pin [1] to "DetectEdge1" pin [In]
• Connect "DetectEdge1" pin [Out] to "DisplayOLED1" > "Fill Screen1" pin [clock]
• Connect "DisplayOLED1" Pin I2C [Out] to Arduino Pin I2C [In]

Step 6: Generate, Compile, and Upload the Arduino Code

In Visuino, at the bottom click on the "Build" Tab, make sure the correct port is selected, then click on the "Compile/Build and Upload" button.

Step 7: Play

If you power the Arduino module, the OLED Display will start to Flash the text.
