The steering wheel on our Formula One Electric Car does more than turn the wheels on our car. It is an interface to the driver to display vehicle parameters including speed and energy remaining in the battery. The wheel also has inputs for the driver to select between events (acceleration, endurance, autocross, and skidpad) and traction control aggressiveness. The PCB was developed by one of our students using a tm4c123g microcontroller to run the Steering Wheel Application. The software is written in C developed using TI Code Composer Studio.
Our composites team produced the wheel shell which houses the electronics.
