Highly unlikely that you will find someone from the technical background who doesn't know about the famous Apollo space missions that led the humans all the way to the moon. But that certainly wouldn't have been possible without the elegant and versatile (erstwhile) Apollo guidance Computers that did exactly what they were made to do. Improvised, safe and guided space navigation and lunar ascent and descent. Although the Apollo Guidance Computer's capabilities were herculean going by that era; considering the perils of the task they were assigned to carry out. Those box like computers may have been obscure long ago but the legacy ceases to fade away.
This project is based on the same concept. Although a few changes have been made with respect to the choice of hardware and the software platform used, the look and feel has not been altered. The guidance computer will be more compact and will be useful for simulation and real life drone flight purposes alike. However, the first and foremost task that it is being built to do is to monitor and control flight parameters of inertial guidance and navigation system.
The parameters intended to be monitored include attitude ( Yaw, pitch and roll ), altitude, linear and angular acceleration, forward and aft orientations, flight trajectory, precise ascent and descent, etc. Not only will these parameters be monitored but can also be controlled remotely by an operator or controller, but also by an auto pilot mode system capable of overriding user defined parameters for safe flight.
