We (Jaden - jadendu0921 and I) are engineering students at Irvington High School in California. Our project wouldn't be possible without the generous support of our teacher Ms. Berbawy and the Berbawy Makers organization.
Have you ever wanted to DOMINATE your opponents in the Ancient Roman style with the power of foam darts? Well look no further. Conquer your classmates or coworkers with this (unofficial) Nerf Ballista!
We created the Nerf Ballista because traditional ballista designs suffer greatly in firepower, as they're limited to one measly projectile at a time. Our invention, made from 3D-printed parts and convenient store-bought components, is capable of launching darts in quick succession, granting it far more firepower.
Our design uses two arms in torsion to pull the drawstring forward, feeding darts into the flywheel cage in front. Inside, a pair of rapidly spinning flywheels accelerate the darts out of the ballista, giving them a range of over 70 feet!
The ballista can be operated in two ways: either by manually pulling and releasing the pusher piece or winding up the string with the crank mechanism. Our video demo has more details.
