Overview
FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME
Fun in the Summertime with the Omega2 is the theme for this “Omega-thon” virtual student hackathon taking place this summer. The Omega2 is fun, so we want you to create cool projects (maybe to keep you cool during the hot summer). And the Omega2 is wifi-connected out of the box. So we want you to make something that is wireless, either connected to the internet or using the wifi (or other wireless comm) in some way to communicate. And if you want, you can use one of our great partners to help you up in the cloud (of that nice summer day).
The Omega2 is a tiny but powerful computer module that runs Linux, is programmed with languages like Python and Node-JS, and is wirelessly connected to the internet with it's built in wifi.
You can plug your Omega2 into one of Onion's Dock board to give it power and get access to the I/O like USB, I2C, I2S, SPI, UART, etc. Then, into the "header" connector, you can attach other Onion Expansion boards for additional functionality.
And if you have a lot of Arduino experience, you can use Onion's Arduino Dock which gets you a dual processing system, adding the Arduino Uno ATMega328 together with the powerful Omega2.
If you are excited to join the contest, but looking for inspirational ideas, check out our latest project book, chock full of cool examples of internet connection applications you can build with the Omega2. You can download it for free here.
