UDOO NEO
UDOO NEO
"Plus" edition. Please be aware that at the time this projects has been come to live, the UDOO Neo isn't available. Expected release will be October 2015 for non Kickstarter backers.

AIS receiver
This low cost - yet good performance - AIS receiver was one of the triggers to start developing my own MIDC. This small thing is now in it's 3rd revision and very simple to integrate and deploy. Adrian Studer is the genious behind it. dAISy is actively developed to optimize it further on.

VISATON Speaker K14.25
1W 1.4 x 2.5 cm (0.5" x 1") miniature speaker with plastic diaphragm and rectangular plastic basket.

10" universal LCD with HDMI interface
This display has been choosen for building the MIDC prototype. It's _non_ sunlight readable, capacitive multi-touch, so not functional for the objected cockpit display.

2 x 2 W Audio amplifier module
2 X 2 Watt Class D Audio Amplifier Board - PAM8803. This is a high-quality dual-channel class-D audio amplifier board capable of delivering 2W per channel of output power into a 4Ω load.

DC - DC buck convertor
LM2596S Power DC-DC Buck Converter Step Down Module 5V 3A. Lots of them for sale on Ebay straight from China.

Aluminium enclosure Hammond Electronics
Standard part, to be adapted for UDOO Neo connectors; Type 1455K1201, Aluminium enclosure, Plastic frame, Aluminium colour, 120 x 78 x 43 mm external dimensions
×1
USB 2.0 4-Port Hub
Plugable USB 2.0 4-Port Hub with 12.5W Power Adapter with BC 1.2 Charging. High quality device suitable for UDOO Neo thanks to its electrical specs, plus capable of charging your tablet on board. Obviously the power adaptor isn't utilized for this project. A powered USB hub is required to power the display and other devices through USB.

Hand tools and fabrication machines

Laser cutting
Laser cutting is required for the wooden (prototype) display enclosure. There are some Fablabs with these machines. There are also service providers offering laser cutting services. The URL posted here is the good quality service provider I'm using in The Netherlands.
3D printing
For those who want a plastic dispay enclosure, 3D printing is an option to make one. On this project page the neccesary STL source files will be published. The link to 3dhubs enables you to use one of the more than 20K connected 3D printers worldwide.

Custom parts and enclosures

Wooden case enclosure for LCD screen - Version 1

This case enclosure for a 10’ LCD screen has been designed for laser cutting the triplex of which it is being made. Obviously wood isn’t the best material for a waterproof rugged marine application, however it is for prototyping.

Diagram for laser cutting plywood - Version 2

All shapes for laser cutting 3mm plywood parts of the wooden enclosure. Please be aware that these files reflects version 2 of the enclosure, while the 3D visualisation is version 1. There are minor differences, however the precise observer will notice them.

Diagram for laser cutting plywood - Version 2

All shapes for laser cutting 6mm plywood parts of the wooden enclosure. Please be aware that these files reflects version 2 of the enclosure, while the 3D visualisation is version 1. There are minor differences, however the precise observer will notice them.

Behuizing Voor Display In 3D Printed Body Part

This file is a straight STL conversion from the 3D model which has been optimized for laser cutting. Although the model is mechanically correct, it still needs some optimization for 3D printing. Particularly price optimization, commercial 3D Printing is expensive!

Dimensions of the 10' mTouch LCD display

In the case you would design an enclosure yourselves, this file provides you with most of the dimensional data.

Aluminium enclosure Hammond Manufacturing 1455K1201

Aluminium enclosure Hammond Manufacturing 1455K1201 for UDOO Neo and add on electronics

Aluminium enclosure Hammond Manufacturing 1455K1201

Standard aluminium enclosure, Plastic frame, Aluminium colour, 120 x 78 x 43 mm external dimensions. Needs to be modified for UDOO Neo connectors. This enclosure has optional flange end panels available for safely securing the UDOO Neo housing on board.

Schematics

Topological Design MIDC - Version 3.

The topological design of the Maritime Instrument & Display Controller visualised in a classical and simplified electrical schematic overview.

Sure, it would be nice to make a Frtizing file out of it. However UDOO (Neo) currently isn't available as a ready to use part :-( When there is time left, I could do that :-)

UDOO Neo datasheet

This is the datasheet used during the Kickstarter campaign. Eventually Rev. D of the board went into production (august 2015). The position of the the sensors has been changed, the board dimensions changed a bit as well.

Code

SignalK server

An implementation of a Signal K server for vessels. Intended to run on embedded devices (e.g. Raspberry Pi, Beaglebone or UDOO). The Server acts as a multiplexer/aggregator of the SignalK streams input by one or more Providers. The merged SignalK data is available in streaming format over a WebSocket connection and via a REST interface.
