Make: Halloween Contest

The challenge

This contest is now closed. Check out the winners to get inspired for next year's Halloween!

This year we’re doing Halloween better than ever, giving Makers the chance to show off your scariest, most ghoulish and creative Halloween projects ever. And, you’ll get a chance to win cool prizes!

To enter, submit a step-by-step project, containing instructions on how to replicate your project, for one of the following themes:

• Haunted House

• Costumes & Make-up

Post your idea early, and share your progress along the way!

PRIZES - TOTAL OF SIX (6) WINNERS

We’ll be awarding prizes to six winners. All winners will:

• Have their project featured in Make: Magazine and online

• Receive a 1-year subscription to Make: Magazine

• Get products worth up to $130 in retail value.

The best part is that YOU, our community, get a say in who gets the glory! For each prize category below, two winners will be chosen - one by Make: editors and one by the community for a total of six winners.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

• Grand Prize (selected from all qualifying entries)

• Haunted House

• Costumes & Make-up

JUDGING CRITERIA

Winners will be chosen by Make: editors and the community.

Criteria for Make: Editors Winners

• Originality (25 pts)

• Aesthetics (25 pts)

• Fun! (25 pts)

• Completeness of your submission: clear instructions, quality photos / videos, parts & materials included, etc. (25pts)

Criteria for Community Winners

The projects with the most points win. The community votes for your project based on their actions:

• 1 project view = 1 point

• 1 project ‘Respect’ = 10 points

Only project views and ‘Respects’ that occur on your project page will be counted, so be sure to share the link to your project with your social network, and tell them to click through to the project page to view and 'Respect' your project. Receiving likes on your social channels will not count towards your points.

TIMELINE

• Project submissions and voting opens: Now!

• Project submissions close: Wednesday, November 16 at 11:59pm PT

• Voting closes: Wednesday, November 23 at 11:59pm PT

• Winners announced by: Wednesday, November 30

Important:

For community voting, only views and 'Respects' that your project receives as of November 23 at 11:59pm PT will be counted for the Community Winners. After this time, people will still be able to view and 'Respect' your project; however, these activities will not be included in the voting.
