Overview
This competition encourages makers to create innovative projects focusing on challenges from climate change and sustainable development (impact on natural ecosystems and human society from climate change) to exploring opportunities from resilient communities, environmental education, low carbon, food system, crisis response, health & well-being, clean energy, green transportation, circular economy, and more by combining innovative design and cutting-edge technologies.
Any project that helps solve a problem that people and society face every day can qualify for this contest! Your project can focus on community development, education, environmental protection, health & fitness, energy, transportation, or other areas of sustainable development. Be imaginative!
No restrictions on hardware or technologyThe competition requires only minimum competency in engineering to get started, and without limitations on the hardware, software, or cloud services used, this is the perfect opportunity to use your imagination - innovate a creative solution to a difficult problem you identify with!
We recommend using open source technologies like TensorFlow, TensorFlow Lite (for Mobile & IoT), TensorFlow.js (for JavaScript), Edge Impulse for TinyML, EfficientNet-Lite (for image classification) Mobile OS: Android AIY, Coral, Flutter, Angular and Blockly. Projects should align with Google AI Principles.
Projects will be awarded points on their ability to solve an important social or livelihood problem, demonstrating effective problem solving, technical efficiency, and the ability to scale economically.

This year Hackster is starting a mentorship program that brings past contest winners & Hackster superusers together with current participants of the contest so experienced users can share their knowledge, skills, and stories. Mentors will meet with mentees for one-on-one conversations to give feedback on projects and advise on how to make the best submission possible in the current contest.
Our mentors are curated by our contest team and are either who have participated in and won previous contests on Hackster, as well as leading engineering and maker professionals who are the best fit to pass on their knowledge and skills to mentees. They are knowledgeable of how to best document engineering projects, as well as how to best show the story of a project to effectively connect a project and its purpose with judges.
